Veges from local farmers @ Highway rest area!!

2012.09.02

Summer will end in few more days here. I saw watermelons from local farms today, so probably my last seen this year. Do you know where I’ve seen them? Can you imagine they are sold at highway rest area in Japan? I recognize there is a huge difference between Japan and the US. I never feel unsafe and insecure in Japan, but rest areas in the US are always scary for me especially in the dark. Now, highway rest areas in Japan are such a nice, clean and interesting as an amusement park!

Isn’t it beautiful? Inside of this building, there are 3 sections. Food court, shops, and local farmers market(so called FOOD STATION). I was just surprised they sell local vegetables, eggs, milks and fruits. Looking at the photo below, it says “We are local veges!”

They picked cabbages from local farms in this morning. Very fresh! Many people buy them and  fresh lettuce and corns were sold out so quick!

Variety of milks, yogurt and pudding etc….

Besides, I also like this service. The biggest frustration on driving is a traffic. To avoid or at least let us know the update, rest areas all over Japan display large expressway maps with traffic information on them.

The funniest part for me is this. A lot of rest areas have a lotto station.  Do they try to get more money to get veges? We always dreams of making a fortune at a stroke anytime anywhere. In this sense, there’s no difference between people in Japan and them in the US.
